Pentagram / Bobby Liebling Documentary

Written by . Filed under News. No comments.

“Last Days Here” is described as “a raw yet unexpectedly touching portrait of cult metal legend Bobby Liebling, chronicling his bid to resurrect his life and career after decades wasting away in his parents’ basement. Liebling made his mark in the ‘70s as the outrageous frontman of Pentagram, a ‘street’ Black Sabbath whose heavy metal riffs once blew audiences’ minds. But various acts of self-destruction, multiple band break-ups and botched record deals eventually condemned his music to obscurity. Now in his 50′s, wasted by hardcore drug use and living on the charity of his ever-patient mother and father (a former Nixon advisor), Bobby’s music is finally discovered by the heavy metal underground. For over three years filmmakers (and metal musicians) Argott and Fenton are witnesses to his unbelievable journey, following the triumphs and downfalls of this underground icon at the crossroads of life and death.”

He’s better than that……

Black Mountain

Black Mountain’s Year Zero soundtrack is nothing less than the band’s full, powerful glory distilled down to one dense, 45-minute acid tab of music. Featuring five new songs and five previously released songs, the Year Zero soundtrack weaves crunching, analog psych metal; futuristic droneouts; and, somehow, a twisted saxaphone ditty.
The Year Zero Original Soundtrack will be released on vinyl and digital formats on 2nd April, 2012.  Stereogum.com has premiered the new song “Mary Lou,” – “an eight-minute charging rhino jam.”

Bad Weather California – ‘Sunkissed’

Dreamy Flaming Lips style musicianship with echos of Wild Beasts and even the Meat Puppets. Not really of BTWOS interest but not bad all the same. Imagine the sun going down on a lonely desert highway as you drive with this on the stereo, it’d give you optimism until you find humanity again.

White Hills – Frying on This Rock

Our favourite space rock trio don’t let us down with this piece of plastic. ‘Frying on this Rock’ is a lot more raw than previous outings; however the trademark fuzzed out psychedelic guitar work and pounding drums are still in force. As if to make a point of this ‘Pads of Light’ packs incredible drumming with a killer riff bouncing around, swirling off into space. ‘Song of Everything’ rumbles and rolls into a Sonic Attack-like middle breakdown before sparking back to life. ‘I Write a Thousand Letters (Pulp on Bone)’ is a pounding slab of psych drone beauty. Enjoy….

The Men

A quiet monday night in the Kazimer with The Men! This highly anticipated show at BTWOS HQ, somewhat lets us down. We arrived to witness the sub-Biffy Clyro mumblings of Being Jo Francis. Too much to watch. Just too much. We were back for The Men. The reviews said a cross between Husker Du and My Bloody Valentine. It was like it was 1990 all over again. However, a bad sound and too big a venue just seemed to dwarf them, making them sound like Gas Huffer.
